Immigration lawmakers try to pick winners and losers. The problem is that just like a broken analog clock with its hands frozen in place, the timing is mostly wrong. This brings me to one of my pet peeves. It bothers me that the immigration laws and agency regulations favor some fields of study and disfavor others. Why for example are students in the STEM subjects(Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) given 27 months of "optional practical training" -- a euphemism for work permission --- while liberal arts students get only 12 months? Hi,
I got my EAD recenltly and my I140 approved long time back but my employer is keeping my I140 receipt number as a secret (both HR and attorney). Is there any way i can get I140 receipt number? do i need this if i want to use AC21 before or after 180 days ?

I am currently a H1B visa holder engaged to a US citizen. We are planning on going to India soon for the formal engagement ceremony and getting married early next year.
I had two points of concern:
1. Upon returning after the engagement, I will still be on H1B (since the wedding is going to be a bit more than 90 days after the official engagement so the K1 visa is not an option), will this cause issues at port of entry?
2. After marriage, we plan to go abroad for our honeymoon (we likely won't have time to file anything with immigration before our return): how should I proceed upon reentry then or is this even advisable since I'll be returning on an H1 but be married to a US citizen?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Hello,
I am completing 4 yrs of my H1 and currenty working with company. I already have my PERM & 140 cleared through this company (EB3).
Hence, if I continue with this company, I do not have to worry about 6yrs limit on my H1.
However, if I have to change my employer:
1. Now?
2. After completion of 6 yrs (i.e. H1 extensions) would I be able to do that?
Also, what will happen with my GC? Will that be fresh start from scratch?

Nothing unusual...infact just a tiny tip of an iceberg. Family based immigration including marriage constitute close to 85-90% of US new immigrants. Other avenues being tightened in recent years, we are sure to see more and more. In fact in recent years I have seen many H1Bs/F1 marrying USC.
For every case being busted, there are many many undetected cases. It is called legal arbitrage, with other areas being tightened amd under attack and marriage based being relatively untouched, it is a matter of time that one will increase.

My wife is going for h1b stamping in Chennai on Jan 17th. She converted from H4 to H1 and and is doing her first year residency in a community hospital in New York. We have all required documentation. Letter from Hosp, 797, 129, LCA, offer letter, ECFMG certification, USMLE transcripts, degree, school transcripts.
In addition, I am asking her to take utility bills and bank certificates and paystubs.
As she was in h4 for 2 years, would the VO be asking her for my stuff like, my w2s, my paystubs etc????
Has anyone gone through this? Any specific questions related to residency? Does she need to take information about the hospital like brochures, etc.... does a visa interview for a Physician focus on the hospital and its operations????
